Letters and postcards have been worn out and replaced by emails, but it makes me happy to receive handwritten letters from time to time. The handwriting can be a fountain pen or a ballpoint pen, but the brush letters written with a brush have a taste.

However, when I try to write with a brush, there are many things to prepare, and honestly it is troublesome. "Hanatoken Petit Inkstone Set" may be a solution that eliminates such trouble. The size is large enough to hide in a business card holder, so preparation and cleaning up are smooth. (See the video at the end of the sentence for details). Enjoy brush writing anywhere This set was born through one person's idea and subsequent trial and error.

Pottery and Arita ware

As the name implies, pottery is made of pottery, and "flower pottery" is made in Arita Town, Saga Prefecture. There are various theories about the origin of Arita porcelain, but the fact that people brought from the Korean Peninsula searched for the best land to make porcelain and arrived at Arita is still scattered from Karatsu facing the sea to Arita. It is inferred from the remains of the kiln.

Arita porcelain is roughly divided into kilns and dough shops, and is made by a complete division of labor. The problem of the production area that has prospered mainly by producing tableware in response to the demands of restaurants is that the needs are decreasing, competition is increasing, and price competition is falling. As a result, long working hours have become a norm, and the number of fabric stores that are originally low in stock has decreased.

Until the birth of "flower pottery"

Shiro Yoshida, the creator of flower pottery, is the second generation of a store that handles Arita porcelain products. My father, who was my predecessor, told me to do what no one else was doing and cultivate a new pottery.

Mr. Yoshida says, "I don't want to compete in price." The reason is that if you force yourself to take an order, the kiln will get wrinkled, and the kiln will go to the fabric shop. Therefore, I have been searching for a new way to utilize Arita porcelain.

Meanwhile, what I saw at the Kyushu Ceramic Museum was a pottery presented to the lord of the Nabeshima domain. Mr. Yoshida, who had been fond of calligraphy since he was a child, was impressed by the pottery and decided that "I make Arita porcelain inkstone", and the days of trial and error began.

First of all, even if Mr. Yoshida, a merchant, talks about the idea of pottery to a craftsman who is a professional craftsman, he is not dealt with at all as "what are you thinking?" So, after finishing my main business, I continued to make prototypes until late at night, saying, "I have to make this myself." However, even if I showed the prototype that I had worked hard to make to the craftsman, it didn't touch the chopsticks or the stick, saying, "This kind of thing breaks quickly" (actually, it broke well).

Even though I was spending my time, the wind from my family became stronger for making pottery that could not be realized at all. Money runs out like a fly. It has been two years since I decided to look at the pottery of the Nabeshima feudal lord.

Mr. Yoshida, who was reminded that this should not be the case, makes a "mold" for the inkstone. Mold making is an initial investment. You need to be prepared to pay for it. After refusing to retreat and devising each process such as soil selection and baking method, and molding using a mold, it became uniform in thickness and did not crack.

Mr. Yoshida will exhibit the pottery made in this way at the trade fair held at Tokyo Big Sight. I am enthusiastic about the pottery that I finally made, and many of the things I would like to exhibit in connection with it. 3 Arranged space for the booth.

The number of pottery sold at the trade fair for several days was zero. I can't go back to Arita without anything, just before I developed and exhibited it, overcoming the opposition of my family. Mr. Yoshida extended the business trip period and visited each case, relying on the business cards exchanged at the venue. Then, it was decided to take up one of them, the magazine "Sarai" of Shogakukan. This is ideal for making New Year's cards later. 100 It will sell as much as a set.

The secret to the flower pottery inkstone

After that, it continued to be improved and reached the current product. Mr. Yoshida said, "No special technique is used in the product, it is made of a combination of conventional techniques. However, in addition to the thousands of combinations of these techniques, there are various things that you can feel because you know calligraphy. It was difficult to balance how to reflect the needs of users in the product. " It is said that people who are familiar with calligraphy and beginners have different points to ask for inkstones.

The life of the inkstone is the performance of ink, and calligraphers pursue this. On the other hand, beginners emphasize design and ease of handling (size, weight, etc.). What Mr. Yoshida aimed for was to balance these two. "The finest inkstone that can be carried" .. It is common sense that flower pottery inkstones are heavier as they are of higher quality. "Innovation of calligraphy" that expands the scene of enjoying calligraphy It became.

Everything wants to liven up Arita, and I want to get closer to the brush letters. The flower pottery that was decided at the Kyushu Ceramic Museum has finally become a reality.

* The color and design of the inkstone are different from the product.

Not to mention fountain pens and ballpoint pens You can easily enjoy the shades of brush letters that cannot be produced with a brush pen. Therefore, it is said that the "Flower Inkstone Petit Inkstone Set" is used by both men and women. Unlike ordinary black inkstones, you can see that the ink is rubbed on the ceramic inkstones. Above all, it is light, space-saving and easy to prepare, so it is perfect for writing in a cafe or office. , And is popular.

It is also exceptional to be able to collect a stroke outdoors on a sunny day.
